Powering AI Fabrics: 1.6T Optical Interconnects + Open CPX MSA
For AI/ML cluster interconnects at 800G and 1.6T, extreme bandwidth, low latency, and lower power per bit are achieved using short‑reach optical solutions with 1.6T optical transceivers and 800G Coherent‑Lite O‑band modules. Together, these technologies deliver lower power, extended reach, and scalable high‑performance AI fabrics.
These solutions align with the emerging Open CPX MSA (Open Co‑Packaging Multi‑Source Agreement)—a new industry consortium formed in March 2026 to standardize co‑packaged and near‑package optical engines for next‑generation AI data center interconnects. The Open CPX MSA was established by leading optical and semiconductor companies including Ciena, Coherent, Marvell, Molex, Samtec, and TeraHop, and aims to define common mechanical, electrical, thermal, optical, and management specifications that enable a broad, interoperable ecosystem for AI‑optimized optical engines.
